The Bubbleator was a spherical acrylic glass elevator that carried visitors between floors of the World of Tomorrow Exhibit during the 1962 World’s Fair. The exhibit was in the Washington State Coliseum, now known as Climate Pledge Arena. The Bubbleator operators sat on a chrome chair and wore futuristic silver uniforms like this. The tops are reminiscent of space suits and are made primarily of synthetic silver lamé. The pants are gray cotton but with silver tuxedo stripes down each leg. The outfit fastens with Velcro in several places. At the time Velcro was a new invention and was being used primarily by NASA. "Step to the rear of the sphere. We only have room for 100 of you," the operator would intone as guests boarded. "Step off into the future," he'd say when the doors opened. "We all have to do that sometime."
